Rustic Armoire/Bar/Cabinet

This armoire was built from the ground up, using primarily reclaimed pallet and barn wood.  The lower box section was made from plywood to ensure straightness for the construction of the drawer.
My husband then created a false split in the center of the drawer front to avoid the "hassle" of making two drawers. Always looking for the short cut. :-)

The sides of the cabinet are constructed from reclaimed tongue and groove barn wood planks.

The doors are nearly completed here, made entirely from pallet wood planks.

He then added trim and repurposed old water valve wheels for door handles. He won't say how or where he got them from, but somewhere, someone's flood insurance premiums just went up.

Rather than going with the usual stain finish, my husband decided to use a two-layered paint finish to give it a vintage, weathered appearance. A pumpkin undercoat was then dry-brushed with a turquoise top coat, allowing the undercoat to peek thru and give the appearance of years of wear. A finishing coat of light stain helped to give it the vintage look by taking some of the brightness off the turquoise.

Finally, two coats of matte finish polyurethane were added to seal and protect.

Ta-daaaah! The shelves are removable. We decided to use it as a cabinet for our extra glasses and dishes. My husband may turn it into a wine rack and bar, since by the time he finished this project, he needed a drink. :-)
