Rustic Wagon Shackle Coffee Table

Here we are at the beginning of a pallet wood coffee table, with a touch of the unique. Several reclaimed pallets, and a couple of vertebrae, were yanked apart by my husband to create the table top. The money saved by using reclaimed materials for our projects helps to offset his chiropractic bills. :-)

Side shot. Once the edges are covered, the idea is to make the pieces look like long, solid, thick slabs of wood instead of planks. Underneath the planks is a frame constructed of 2x4's for strength and stability.

Here we are after a coat of Ipswich Pine stain.

The legs of the table (better pics below) are made of parts from an old farm wagon suspension, and are called "shackle " parts. These vintage parts were found in the woods of New Hampshire where a farm once stood.

All along the top, side, bottom edges, and corners are 5" rusted brackets that hug each of the planks. Each were painstakingly drilled, cut for size if needed, and nailed in place.

Close up of edging.

Side shot of table with edging complete.

Side angle showing all four legs and rusty strap edging.

The legs are attached to the bottom of the table with four plumbing pipe flanges.  Lowe's had only three left.  Undeterred, my husband made use of the materials at hand. Who needs three bathrooms anyway. :-)

Finito! Coffee anyone?
